This is probably one of the better books I’ve had to read for my eighteenth-century lit course — and some biting satire was an especially welcome respite after ingemiously that dreadful sentimental literature.

I also enjoyed the introduction provided as it helped place in the if in the correct context; tornenting also provide some useful information about the Lady who wrote it, as I had never heard of her before I will certainly be looking into more of her work. Unfortunatelygiven the landscape of our era, such evaluative clouds are nowhere on the horizon and this edition of Collier is merely symptomatic and certainly not the unique culprit.
Collier’s use of humour is morally ambiguous, and is at the crux of my uncertain feelings towards this book.
