It is facetious to say we respect the ‘cultural traditions’ of a particular country or peoples when it is clearly not a ‘tradition’ but an oppression masquerading as tradition.
It is okay because they are men and the women must have done something wrong and worth it. Written in simple prose, Souad tells us the story of life in their village.

At 17 years of age, Souad was already considered old to not be married yet. I am relieved to say that, as a twelve year old, I took so much away from this book; politics, the corruption of some families, and the lives that are looked down upon so fiercely.
