Though Espido Freire, now 38, is a literary celebrity in her native Spain, She published her first novel, Irlanda, at age 24, and went on to. The latest addition to my website is Espido Freire’s Irlanda (Irlanda). Freire’s first novel is the only one of her novels to be translated into English. I love Espido Freire’s Irlanda and it has always annoyed me that it isn’t more widely known. At least, now people can read it in English. Yay!.

This narrator manipulates her story any way she wishes. After the death of her sister Sagrario, young Natalia has been iglanda by her mother Their mother cannot get over it.
Freire leads us through a historic manor and sprawling grounds where summer begins in lavish dinner parties and sun-soaked afternoons. There she meets her beautiful cousin Irlanda.

Lara rated it really liked it Aug 26, The three girls do make something of an effort to bring Natalia into their group and it works partially for a while but then the girls have to leave to back to their families. They represent a history and an inheritance, as Natalia shows when she perceives her cousin Irlanda as a symbolic representation of their cruel ancestor, Hibernia, about whom the family has told tales for generations.
Secondly, Natalia lives in a fairy-tale world. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Open Preview See a Problem? She is the youngest writer to have won this well-funded literary award. If it has to do with foxglove, then yes.

Sin duda, recomiendo la lectura de Irlanda a todos aquellos que quieran leer un relato que, para bien o para mal, no deja indiferente. A novel of beauty, rivalry and cruelty, that shows without mercy the harshest part of feminine mind.

But the feeling is definitely there, especially when she talks about night and circles and the turtle. This is an excellent novel about dealing fspido growing up and dealing with the death of a loved one, with a sharp edge to it. Before I tell you about this beautiful book, let me pose a question to you, you intelligent readers. The children stay in a separate house on the property, with the parents having some but not too much contact. Especially the moment when Natalia brings up the toffee apples.
Would love to hear what you think about it. The language in the book is often filled with wonderful phrases that go beyond the young age of the narrator, which help create a physiological and atmospheric novel.
I found myself re-reading several passages, especially when Natalia seems to be speaking to herself, wondering what, exactly, was being worked out.
