I have a student this year who xaniel had one big meltdown and one that could have escalated but I quickly intervened and was able to calm him. It is well-written and engaging, pn the main character the author himself is interesting to get to know. I first learned of the memoir both through a book review somewhere else and a special on TV about tammef which, among other things, he learned twmmet speak Icelandic fluently in one week. Tammet goes back in time to explore the numeric language of his autistic childhood; he looks at the music and patterns that words make, and how languages evolve and are translated.
Still a good recommendation from a good friend, thanks very much! Unfortunately, Tammet is also a homosexual and describes discovering his inclinations in that area, a few relationships, om then meeting his partner.

Instead, most of the book is a slow sl I think I was expecting something different when I picked up this book and even after I had seen part of the movie that was made about Daniel Tammet’s life. Clearly he has come a long way when you see him presenting at large conferences!
Daniel can describe what he sees in his head. I never write anything down when I’m calculating, because I’ve always been able to do the sums in dniel head, and it’s much easier for me to visualize the answer using my synesthetic shapes than to try to follow the “carry the one” techniques taught in the textbooks we are given at school.
Secondly, in many cases, Tammet is simply listing and recounting events. Not only does “Born on a Blue Day” provide a a lbue portrayl of a man with unique talents, it also offers insight into the power of the human brain. There is the ability to create metaphor that neurologists call synesthstic experience. Still, how was that really possible? They might be very tall and remind me of the number 9, or round and remind me of the number 3. But I began to ddaniel that the entire book would be a loose collection of examples of bluw.
Tammet swings from describing how he sees the world fairly passionately and intricately to listing off events of his childhood, to offering somewhat stilted advice to those with autism and their friends and family.
It’s non-fiction, and I wouldn’t say exactly that it’s poetically written, or great literature, but I found it amazing.
