Moorcock himself has said that Cornelius, the only other character to have attained comparable dlric culture status, is his s-era reinvention of Elric. The first of these is “The Dreaming City,” which opens with Elric already a self-exiled emperor, plotting with a fleet of sea raiders to exact a shocking vengeance on his usurping cousin Yyrkoon.
But this book also includes the four novelettes that make up Stormbringerthe first fully realized Elric steaelr.
I seek no excuses, for I know what I am and I know what I have done. The sword confers upon Elric strength, health, and fighting prowess, allowing him to do away with his dependence on drugs, but it must be fed by the souls of intelligent beings. It is an understatement that this edition has helped to clarify the chronological issues that I recall from so long ago. That is a minor part of the stories in this book.

You see, Stormbringer is evil. Elrric, I have not read any of the rest of the Elric books and can understand why many people are upset about the timeline contradicting itself. This is particularly the case for readers interested in not just these novels but also Moorcock’s broader body of work, most obviously the wtealer Eternal Champion series, from the historical fantasy of the Von Beks The War Hound and the World’s Pain to the steampunk-themed alternate histories of Oswald Bastable The Warlord of dlric Air and the loopy, experimental adventures of secret agent Jerry Cornelius The Final Programme.

Bold roman numerals indicate the six-book sequence of the DAW paperbacks. Don’t expect them to be consistent. Leaving the palace, Elric elrc attacked by Nikorn who accuses him of breaking their agreement, and although Elric is reluctant to fight him, Stormbringer sudden pulls itself free of his grip and strikes Nikorn fatally.
It wasn’t getting any better and felt more like a homework assignment to read it.
