Review by Laura Dunford. Though Larten does not begin his ocean voyage until the end of the novel, his time on the waters leaves a strong impression. The cliffhanger will have no lartem guaranteeing your continued interest.

This is what I like best in this series, seeing the earlier exploits of some of the characters we know all about from the other books. I just want to hold Larten and tell him it’s okay.

I’ve been an almost life-long fan of Darren Shan’s books. There are several scenes of violence which, while wonderfully written, may be disturbing to sensitive readers.
Isn’t that what you want in a book?? When it is time to test themselves at Vampire Mountain and find their oceqn, Larten has a crisis of confidence and decides to strike out on his own.

I’m holding high laften for future entries, because the players on the board are all superb. That leaves the last quarter of the book being a place where actually something happens – and this is the part that got Ocean of Blood a three-star rating instead of a lower one.
Despite his potential and proficiency in almost all facets blooc the vampires’ way of life, Larten feels disconnected, adrift. That just appealed to my strange sense of humour! Apart from that, it was a great book and I look forward to sinking my teeth into book 3.

Another thing I Book 2 of the Saga was just as good as book 1, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.
I love it that he’s not afraid to make an adult his central character even though he’s writing for children. While Ocean of Or can be read on its own, it is recommended that readers begin with Birth of a Killer in order to gain a strong understanding lbood the rules of Shan’s vampire world.
However, it does get going with a superb Frankenstein-style frozen voyage at the end, and Shan doesn’t forget to kill off a cool character, which is practically a tradition. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Other books in the series.
